Les
Nombres Francais
(French Numbering System)

|
| Whether
you're asking the price of something, paying for your
café au lait, asking about train schedules, or
simply asking the time of day, you'll be needing to
know your French numbers. We present here the basic
French numbering system for numbers from 1 to 100. For
the most part it's very similar to English...note the
special words for 11 through 16, and the fact that for
21, 33, etc., it's "twenty and one," thirty
and three," etc. Also, and this is the worst part...there
are no words for 70, 80 and 90. So you have to do arithmetic:
70 is "sixty-ten," 75 is "sixty-fifteen,"
80 is "four twenties" and 90 is "four-twenties-ten."
Oh la la, c'est difficile! |
| Note:
This numbers page goes hand-in-hand with the Money Vocabulary
page, since money situations are where you'll need your
numbers most (and need to hear the store clerk when
he/she rattles off your total too fast! Be sure and
review both the money vocabulary and this numbers page
before taking the Money/Numbers quiz, which incorporates
vocabulary from each. |
