Dordogne Multi Sport Tour

The Dordogne department of the Aquitaine region, in the Black Perigord, and if you can get that, you will be delighted to visit the Quercy. Nevermind the geopolitical boundaries; the well known name of Dordogne is equivalent to famous cave paintings, remarkable chateaux, delicious food, rolling green countryside, and historic villages! What more could one vacation offer? Well on this tour it does offer MORE - more activities and so our Multi Sport version of our Dordogne Cycling Tour!

We offer cycling, hiking, canoeing, adventure park, and a treasure hunt to round out the activities on this trip. You get all the culture and a different point of view while having a lot of fun! Just like our cycling only tour, here on this tour you get to experience the force of water and the large rivers that have cut the limestone plateau and provided for all the now famous grottos that prehistoric man chose as his canvas. You can visit these grottos, explore the historic aspects of important towns such as Bergerac, Sarlat, La Roque Gageac, Beynac, and Les Eyzies. See chateaux, and stay in charming and welcoming country inns & chateau. All that makes Dordogne famous is available in this trip! See some blog posts about Dordogne here:

DAY 3

Day 3: Ride to Les Eyzies - 28km

We will start the morning with an orienteering course to challenge your skills and then later you can take off on a bicycle ride to the capital of Pre-History. On the ride you'll first stop at Limeuil, rated one of the most beautiful village of France. Then down to Le Bugue and then on to Les Eyzies! Take time to visit this very charming town and its sites/museums including the Font de Gaume. Font de Gaume is a cave that houses a collection of prehistoric polychrome cave paintings. Prehistoric people living in the Dordogne Valley first settled in the mouth of Font de Gaume around 25,000 BC. The cave was forgotten until the nineteenth century when local people again began to visit the cave. Paintings were discovered and date from around 17000 BC, during the Magdalenien period. The cave's most famous painting, a frieze of five bison was discovered accidentally in 1966 while scientists were cleaning the cave. Night in charming 3 star hotel with dinner included. (B,D)

DAY 5

Day 5: Ride to Sarlat and Adventure Park (41 km).

A nice ride that takes you to an adventure park where you can do some ropes courses in the tree tops and zip lines, a great time that you can do all at your own pace. Local French speaking employees of the park will help you with your harness and equipment. Afteward continue to Sarlat. This town with its cobbled streets, old roofs, and warm stone walls give an exceptional heritage. Sarlat is a medieval town that developed around a large Benedictine abbey of Carolingian origin. The medieval Sarlat Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Sacerdos. Because modern history has largely passed it by, Sarlat has remained preserved and one of the towns most representative of 14th century France.
You have a 3 star hotel in the center of the historical old town of Sarlat. Dinner on your own in Sarlat. (B)

You will then leave your bikes for an 18km hike (roundtrip) to Beynac and the perched village and chateau high on the cliffside. Return back to Sarlat via Roque Gageac after collecting your bikes again after the hike. Leave some time to do our "Treasure Hunt" in Sarlat this afternoon! This little program will teach you about Sarlat history and take you into out of the spots. Night at same hotel but dinner out on your own. (B)
